And kaffeost is probably the same thing, as the Lapps would put pieces of breadcheese into their coffee, drink the first cup of coffee, then refill it and 'eat' the next one with cheese.

Brilynn - if you ever have a chance to try cloudberries, then grab it! They're so worth it!

Clivia - did you have any luck tracing the cheese down?

Joey - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! Maybe next time you're up north (as in Scandinavian area)?

Evelin - no meil on ka ju vähemalt kolme sorti leibjuustu saadaval - kodumaist, põhjanaabrite soomlaste ja lõunanaabrite lätlaste oma:) Ja loodetavasti on Su tänavune murakasaak uhkem:)

Jeanne - hmm. Let me think.. Maybe you can join one lovely Austrian blogger on her trip to Estonia one day:) I'd be definitely able to serve you both squeaky cheese and cloudberries:)Pillehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05817049547134774699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13695947.post-1167927228003319512007-01-04T18:13:00.000+02:002007-01-04T18:13:00.000+02:00That sounds wonderful - even though I've never tas...That sounds wonderful - even though I've never tasted squeaky cheese or cloudberries!! I do love the combination of fruit and cheese though, and I'd love to try this particular combination one day :-)Jeannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12325204219395014329noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13695947.post-1166913710486878952006-12-24T00:41:00.000+02:002006-12-24T00:41:00.000+02:00soomes käies hakkas suu paraja pikkusega leipäjuus...soomes käies hakkas suu paraja pikkusega leipäjuusto letti vaadates vett jooksma. millalgi tuleks selle kasutusvüimalusi veelgi katsetada. kodus valmistatud murakamoos ongi just puuduv koostisosa. Minu selleaastane saak piirdus ühe vennaga pooleks tehtud murakaga, kui rabas matkamas olime:)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13695947.post-1166596946381026892006-12-20T08:42:00.000+02:002006-12-20T08:42:00.000+02:00Cloudberries and squeaky cheese...this sounds so w...Cloudberries and squeaky cheese...this sounds so wonderful! I am sure you can find it at Hötorgshallen but I´ll look for it in ICA in Södertälje, they have lots of Finnish sausages so why not cheese?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13695947.post-1166457441365224482006-12-18T17:57:00.000+02:002006-12-18T17:57:00.000+02:00Cloud berries look so pretty, but I've never had t...Cloud berries look so pretty, but I've never had the chance to try them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13695947.post-1166452267158988152006-12-18T16:31:00.000+02:002006-12-18T16:31:00.000+02:00Ah, I see! Or heeeeeey, I've seen recipes for kaffeost (coffee-cheese) from lapland, I wonder if that's the same. Then I could just make it myself - but I think what I've seen has a softer structure, and probably couldn't be grilled.Annehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18224478760304481724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13695947.post-1166448394196121052006-12-18T15:26:00.000+02:002006-12-18T15:26:00.000+02:00Bonnie - we (well, the 5- and 9-year old and me:) ...Bonnie - we (well, the 5- and 9-year old and me:) entertained ourselves on Friday night by trying to listening to the squeaks while biting into the cheese. Childish, yeah, but so much fun:)

Clivia - hope you'll find a Swedish supplier. ICA tells you to ask for brödost at saluhallar or specialbutiker: http://www.icakuriren.se/recept_visa.asp?iId=2782
I also found an American supplier: http://www4.mailordercentral.com/carrvalleycheeseco/prodinfo.asp?number=BREACHE

Anne - I don't think it wouldn't work with halloumi. The texture is similar alright, but leipäjuusto isn't salty at all! It's more of a dessert cheese, in Lapland they soak it in coffee, for example.. You must hope that Clivia finds a source for it:)Pillehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05817049547134774699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13695947.post-1166447672883437932006-12-18T15:14:00.000+02:002006-12-18T15:14:00.000+02:00Clivia - if you do, buy some for me, too! :) Pille...Clivia - if you do, buy some for me, too! :)

Pille, it really looks great! Leipäjuusto is soooo Northern Finnish - we used to have at least once a week. A friend of mine even tried to make it on the camp fire at the kesämöki which was disappointingly a failure. I would love to try it at home.

There's no substitute for the cloudberries either. A definate must have :)

Thanks for reminding me!Bonniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17313647470943699190noreply@blogger.com
