Food & Travel, June 2011

If you're thinking of travelling to Estonia this year - and have thought about visiting the islands (especially Muhu and Saaremaa), then you must check out Frances Pearce's article "Baltic Flavours" in the June 2011 issue of FOOD and TRAVEL. Lots of good suggestions and mouth-watering photos.

Hi! I just discovered your blog and absolutely love it‼! I stumbled upon it because I was trying to research some of Pokhlyobkin’s Estonian recipes, in particular milk based soups. Do you know anything about soup that is, according to Pokhlyobkin, is made using both fresh and sour milk and egg? You whisk egg and some sugar and salt with sour milk and then add them to simmering fresh milk while whisking? Again, I really enjoyed your blog! Thank you very much! Holly

Holly - welcome to Nami-Nami and thank you for your kind words! I'm ashamed to admit that I had never heard of Pokhlyobkin before. The soup you describe doesn't ring a bell either. It sounds a little like our "snow ball soup" (lumepallisupp), but it only uses fresh milk (you whisk egg whites with some of the sugar, form into small "snowballs" and boil them in hot milk; put aside; heat milk with sugar and egg yolks until thickened, then serve with those "snowballs").
