Ņami-Nami Easter Brunch 2007

On 8 April 2007 K. and I hosted our first annual Easter brunch together. This is a party from friends, mainly from K's side (whom years later, when I'm writing this blog post, have become our friends, of course.

It's customary in Estonia to paint/decorate eggs for Easter. Traditionally this is done by using onion skins (see my 2011 blog post here), and we asked our guests to bring a decorated egg. The selection was lovely:

We had quite a spread, including beetroot-dyed eggs:

I made kedgeree, because it's yellow hue is perfect for Easter and matches the yellow daffodils:

As a homage to my year in Denmark in 1992/1993 - and beause I had rediscovered my rullepølse-press - we made the Danish speciality. Wikipedia describes this dish as following:

"Rullepølse (Danish pronunciation: [ˈʁuləˌpʰølsə], rolled sausage) is a traditional Danish cold cut. A piece of pork belly – variants use beef flank or lamb – is flattened out and is spread with herbs and seasoning (salt, pepper, allspice), chopped onions, and in some variants, parsley. It is then rolled up and placed in a brine for a number of days, before being boiled, placed in a special press, cooled, and sliced thinly."

As for desserts, we had Easter bread kulich (kulitš in Estonian)

I also baked the Greek tsoureki-bread, using a recipe by Theodore Kyriakou (I wasn't happy with it, so will be using this recipe in the future):

And, of course, my traditional pashka

We drank some homemade cranberry cordial, among other things:

From the (future) archives:

We've hosted an Easter brunch for friends annually since 2007 (I moved back home to Estonia and in with K. from Scotland in October 2006, so it's 'our thing'). I see I have a lot of catching up to do :)
